FITS Workshops
FITS will offer workshops on a variety of instructional technology topics.

Subject matter may include the following:

FITS Training Image
  • E-Learning Resources for Healthcare Professionals
  • Assessing Learning in Tech Environments
  • Ubiquitous Learning
  • Curriculum Design
  • Designing for Pedagogy in the Health Sciences

Please send an email to fits@uchc.edu if you are interested in attending a workshop. We also welcome suggestions for new conference topics. In addition, we would like to offer targeted training for course committees or departments. This allows us to answer questions and brainstorm use based on your specific course needs. Please contact us to set up your own time block. If you have administrative support for your course, please be sure to encourage those staff members to sign up for a workshop. We want to be sure to give them the appropriate training.

Faculty Coaching
Are you interested in getting support as you plan your course? Have you considered your students' various learning styles as you prepare for your next class? We may be a great resource for you. We can help you write learning objectives, organize your material, create assessments, as well as offer teaching strategy suggestions. We welcome you to contact us to discuss planning your next teaching session.

FITS Services

One of the goals of FITS is to help faculty members enhance their course curricula using the affordances of technology. Our staff members are skilled at digitizing images and video, scanning 2-D images and 3-D models, developing online "interactivities" using principles of instructional design, creating online assessments, and animating scenes to help students visualize concepts. If you are interested in working with FITS to enhance part of your curriculum, feel free to contact us by phone (x2573), email (fits@uchc.edu), or in person (AM-015).

Educational Multimedia Development

Are you interested in incorporating multimedia into your course as a means of engagement and enhancement? Do you like the idea of being able to deliver tutorials and other study tools for your students via the Web? We welcome you to meet with us to review your learning objectives and design an effective solution. Contact Timberley Barber by email (tbarber@uchc.edu) or by phone (x2851).

Blackboard Solutions

FITS provides user support and system implementation for UCHC's Blackboard system. Blackboard enables faculty, students, administrators, staff, and affiliated community health professionals to access a wide range of educational and clinical electronic resources. Through Blackboard, instructors can promote the development of online communities and facilitate communication through the system's email, live chat, online surveys/assessments, threaded discussions, and community-specific announcements. Contact Jason Nicosia by email (nicosia@uchc.edu) or by phone (x2851).

Computer Based Assessment

Think back to a test or quiz you've recently given. Were there key questions that a majority of your students missed? As you've developed your assessment items, have you given thought to your original course learning objectives? These are some of important factors to consider as you design effective assessments. By meeting with us, we can review your learning objectives, examine your planned learning activities, and review the tools you are using to assess your students. We will also look at the various media available that can be used to assess your students efficiently. Contact Timberley Barber by email (tbarber@uchc.edu) or by phone (x2851).

  Services

ClassroomInstructional Support
We are available to evaluate your learning objectives, visual aids, teaching materials, learning activities, and assessment items. We can also review part or all of your curricula in order to identify areas where technology and multi-media may enhance or assist with your teaching.

Cross-campus projects
We are strong believers in collaborating, innovating, and avoiding having to re-invent the wheel. Please don't hesitate to contact us in order to discuss the possibility of joining forces on a project.

E-Portfolio
E-portfolios are digital collections of work that may be used for student assessment or as records for accreditation purposes. Blackboard describes its e-Portfolio tool as follows: Online portfolios are now seen as a critical new tool in education. Students develop online portfolios to enable learning assessment, support career development and meet certification requirements. Faculty portfolios are used to document academic and professional growth and as tools in the recruitment, tenure and promotion process. The Blackboard Content System enables students and faculty to easily assemble, present and share their online portfolios.
